‘Parfum de Nuit’ is a handwoven tapestry by licier, Daniel Drouin from the 1970s.
.
Born in 1937 in France, Drouin and his wife lived and taught at their workshop. The intensive practice and elegant design work are evident in every piece. Licier, or tapestry weavers, would travel from all over the world to study with him at Atelier Daniel Drouin Ancien licier des Gobelins in Venasque, Provence, France.
.
Beginning as an apprentice, he studied at the royal French tapestry factory in Paris, the Gobelins, where the use of fine woven grain to immolate the appearance of paintings took shape. And, in the 20th century, these techniques were often contrasted with a heavier weave. His continued importance in the textile world is ever present and an enticing inclusion to postmodern art.
